Generally, we all run away from sadness and mask it with anything to avoid feeling it. Sadness is not a pleasant emotion, but rather one that hurts (if you have felt it deeply, you will know what I am talking about). Sadness appears when we lose something or someone, and all losses, whether big or small, are painful. Because it hurts, we do whatever is necessary not to connect with it and not to feel it. We fill our time with mindless activities so as not to feel the emptiness of sadness… and I’m not judging! But sadness does not appear to annoy us, it also has a beautiful function… Sadness is an emotion that connects us with a very deep and wise part of ourselves, an essential part of ourselves that allows us to assimilate, integrate, and let go of that which no longer belongs to us (in reality, it never belonged to us, but I’ll talk about this in another blog entry).

This is why it is important to give some space to sadness. For our personal and spiritual growth, it is necessary to connect with this essential wound, with this vulnerability that is so uncomfortable for us, with this pain that is sometimes unbearable… because from here the deepest lessons and the most beautiful light will emerge! Letting ourselves feel sadness deeply, moving through it, and as a result of the deep learning that this emotion gifts us, letting go of what was never ours and giving ourselves up to life!

If sadness has become a travelling companion or a permanent state of mind for you, I invite you to become aware of when this sadness began (some loss or feeling of abandonment may be behind it), bring awareness to this feeling, and embrace yourself within it… Only from a place of understanding and compassion can this emotion be released. So embrace yourself, pamper yourself in the pain of loss, and— above all— LOVE YOURSELF!

If you want to transform your sadness and move through it in order to release it, and you aren’t able to do it alone, there are several therapies that might be able to help you. You can click on any of them to learn more about them: Integrative Therapy, Gestalt Therapy, Bach Flower remedies, Reiki

I embrace you, accompany you, and pamper you from a distance. I honor and deeply respect this part of you that is sad and hurting. And from here, from the other side of the screen, I am with you in whatever you are feeling in this very moment, whatever it may be…
